Gene core sets

This option enables you to select two or more genomes, genomic elements or user defined lists as data source for the identification of the core set of protein genes.

Gene core sets are defined as groups of genes with best-bidirectional hits for all possible pairs of organisms in the data source.

When analyzing genomic elements the number of these genes has to be identical in all organisms. In the analysis of whole genomes, however, these numbers may be different because one and the same gene may have best-bidirectional hits with genes in more than one genomic element.

(Note, that only best-bidirectional hits are taken into account that have a length ratio of the ungapped protein sequences larger than 0.3 and a sequence identity better than 30%.)
